Meet Lori

“Hey, get a room.”

These words have been said to my husband Bobby and me dozens of times during our 30+ years of marriage. I’m a modest woman, and we have never crossed any “displays of affection” line in public.

So what prompts this response from people?

I pursued the answer with some friends. One said our love is “more intimate than others.” Another said, “It’s in a league all its own.” A third said it’s unlike anything he’s seen anywhere else, and it gives him hope.

I’m not a psychologist. I’m not a counselor, a therapist nor an academic. But over the years, a few things have become clear. People in bad relationships yearn for more intimate and loving ones. People in great relationships want tips to do better. Both have come to me for advice. I don’t have all the answers, but I do have some.

As I contemplated sharing my thoughts as a blogger, I wondered how I could best help people without being able to directly listen to their struggles. So, I decided to tell stories. I share what has worked for Bobby and me. And I try to provide context so that you can decide if what worked for us might work for you.

Everyone has a source of truth where they seek answers. My most trusted source is the Bible. I’ve found that the practical answers we need for problems we face right now are in there.  It’s smart and real. It works for us.

About taking advice, it says, “Fools are headstrong and do what they like; wise people take advice.” (Proverbs 12:15)

Picture us sitting down, sharing a cup of coffee, and just talking. That’s what I think of when I’m writing. It’s OK if you don’t agree with me.  Please comment, and we’ll figure it out together. You can expect that I’ll be sharing on my blog about twice a month. www.heygetaroom.net

About Us

At my day job, I’m Director of Quality for one of the world’s premier Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) companies. Quite different than a quasi relationship counselor, I know, but a position I love and appreciate.

My husband, Bobby Martin, is a professional race car driver.  Bobby and I have campaigned a Top Alcohol Funny Car around the country for many years.  We just started a new adventure! Bobby is racing a A/ND Nostalgia Dragster! So fun! I pack the parachutes. Some say that this is the reason he’s so sweet to me.  😊 He’s also a motivational speaker and a manager for a company specializing in collector cars.

He plays electric guitar and I sing. My favorite music is the blues and Christian contemporary. Some think this is incongruous, but I don’t. One is about looking. And one is about finding. My blog is about both.

We’ve been blessed to stand together in the Winner’s Circle. Thank you, God.
