Ingredients

  • 1 orange
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 sprinkle cinnamon
  • 8 slices Brioche bread
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • maple syrup

Instructions

  • Zest the orange, set aside the zest, and slice the orange for a tasty garnish.
  • In a bowl, mix the eggs well with the zest, milk, orange juice, vanilla and cinnamon.
  • Begin heating your butter in a grill pan or large skillet.
  • Drench each piece of bread into the custard mixture on both sides until moist but not soggy. Brioche is spongier and the custard is thinner than normal custard, so drenching time is less than typical.
  • Add bread into the hot pan and cook 3-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and fully cooked through.
  • Remove from the pan and serve with maple syrup. Garnish with oranges.

My Recipe Tips!

  • Cooking is so personal, and this recipe is perfect for experimenting and customizing! Try chocolate chip or vanilla brioche. Or delicious Italian! Instead of Maple Syrup, why not Blueberry? Vanilla?
  • This recipe is tasty lightened up. You can use skim milk, low sugar orange juice and sugar free syrup. These are the ingredients I had in my fridge when I created this recipe - it was yummy.
