Music and love have been intertwined for thousands of years, each mutually developing the other. That’s an amazing amount of amazingness! Speaking of amazing, how about a date night for music lovers?
The relationship between music and love is not a new phenomenon. The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that music had healing properties to cure illnesses. Those Europeans. They’re smart! Today, science backs this up. When you hear a song you like, your brain rewards you with dopamine, “the happy hormone.” Songs that release dopamine more intensely feel sexier and more romantic.
Makes sense to me! Have you ever listened to that sad song you love to hate on repeat after a breakup? Nothing cures heartache quite like a hefty old dose of perfect music. Or have you been unable to get a beautiful tune out of your head because it reminds you of that special someone? So, I’ve come up with some ideas to amp up the hot romance for we music lovers!
Lori, Practice What You Preach
Before I give you these ideas, I need to say something. You don’t have to be experienced or skilled at music to do them. Having adventures is about tackling things together – fun things – even scary things. Doing it like a professional is not the point! You’re likely not a professional, and neither am I. Have great fun, laugh together, and revel in your imperfectly perfect night.
I wrote about how trying new things that I never thought I could do has changed my life, like writing this blog.
My Ideas for Date Night For Music Lovers
- Take a virtual music class together. Google “free virtual music classes;” there are so many! Or, find a local place and go there together. Wouldn’t that be fun?!?!!
- Go to a concert. Cuddle up, sing along and laugh together!
- Have a custom song written about your love story. Did you know that Songfinch, for about 200 bucks, will write a custom song for you, using the information you share about your love story? Oh, that would be the best surprise. Or, why not complete the entry online and anxiously await your song together. That would stretch out the fun. Either way, it’s a stellar idea.
- Have a karaoke night! You don’t have to have a karaoke machine. Search YouTube for karaoke versions of your favorite songs. Bobby and I have had so much fun doing this! “Shallow,” sung by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, is a great one to try. I added “low key” to my search because we sing in a lower register.
- Record shopping! Veer away from streaming for just one day, choose a CD each, and listen together. Or, if you’re serious and have a turntable, get the vinyl. Just combing through bins of dusty vinyl would be sooo cool.
- Take a dance class together. Rumba is a slow and sensual dance because it involves flirting with your partner. It’s a game of seduction. Yeah, ask to learn that one.
- Dress up, and go to the opera or the symphony. Seeing your beloved all gussied up is kind of magical.
- Embark on a musical pilgrimage! How about Nashville, where you can listen to live music in the honky-tonks of Broadway and see the famous recording studios on Music Row? Or, Elvis’ Memphis! You could visit Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! The infamous blues musician Buddy Guy has a club in Chicago called Legends. He’s a national treasure, and when he’s not touring, he pops in and surprises guests by performing—so many possibilities.
Let’s go!
I think we could make unforgettable memories by continuing this tried and true tradition. Go and enjoy music with your love! Just be careful; it’s bound to get hawt.
“I would always rather be happy than dignified.” Charlotte Bronte, from Jane Eyre.
“Praise God in his holy house of worship,
praise him under the open skies;
Praise him for his acts of power,
praise him for his magnificent greatness;
Praise with a blast on the trumpet,
praise by strumming soft strings;
Praise him with castanets and dance,
praise him with banjo and flute;
Praise him with cymbals and a big bass drum,
praise him with fiddles and mandolin.
Let every living, breathing creature praise God!
Hallelujah!”
Psalm 150:-1-5
