Date Night

Dear Mr. Covid, Date Nights Are Not Canceled

Boy, I have come up with some GREAT ideas for having fun right now. These can be dates or fun with friends…but what they ARE NOT…are boring. Yay!

Depending on what city you live in or near, restaurants and other places of business are in various stages of “open”, but I got you covered! Whether you want to stay close to home or venture out, these are ways you can safely shake off the Cabin Fever and have – some – fuuuuuun! I would love to hear in the comments some of your ideas, too. Let’s get started!

First, how the heck do you meet new people right now? Well…

Did you know that dating sites are reporting a surge in activity? I guess we’ll see if  video calls will remain popular once physical meet-ups with strangers are doable again. But for now, they are an innovative way to get to know people. If you’ve been hesitating, what have you got to lose? It’s virtual, and you’ll have some time to get to know people before committing to anything face-to-face.

OK, here are my ideas for some great nights out. And in!

  1. Have a Floor Picnic, a Deck Picnic, a Bed Picnic – or find an open park or space at the beach where you can be away from other people. Make it romantic and special, not like other picnics. Light candles. Play music.  Yoga pants, baggy clothing or stains on your shirt are strictly forbidden. Wear make-up. Take a shower.  Comb your hair, for Pete’s sake. Dress up like for a date…um…unless it’s the aforementioned Bed Picnic.

2. Get in the car and drive. You don’t have to have a destination. You can play music you love, and talk in the car. No one can hear you. It’s really intimate, especially late at night. And, it’s a natural way to socially distance. And you’re out of the house, which is a huge bonus. When we first met, my husband Bobby and I used to take a lot of drives in this Corvette. I remember this car verrrrry fondly. We solved all of the world’s problems in it and learned so much about one another.

3. Explore your city. If your city is open, by all means, eat in the restaurants and explore! Your fave restaurant is sure to cheer you up!!!!!!!! But if not or if you are leary, that’s OK. You got this. Choose the right time when it’s not crowded – early in the morning, perhaps? Or late in the evening. Take a walk, and ask Mr. Google about anything interesting that you see.

4. Stay in and go virtually to places you’ve never been. Did you know that Google Arts & Culture Street View provides virtual tours? You can view famous art at the Guggenheim, see the view from the top floor of the Eiffel Tower, see amazing street art murals in NYC , visit the White House or stand on Route 66. I knowwww, right?  https://artsandculture.google.com/project/street-view

5. Have your own wine and beer tasting. Include some favorites and a few new ones. Or you can order blind tasting kits online. Here’s one. https://milled.com/winc/our-new-blind-tasting-kit-basically-turns-you-into-a-wine-expert-kTUc-WZqF3g2mD5b

6. Have a Movie Night. Now, I know watching movies is nothing new, but this one should be special. Take turns picking a movie. Switch off the lights. Have movie food. Dress like you’re on a date. The night should have Intention and Purpose. Google a list of good ones to try.

7. Challenge your partner to a cook off. Or dance off. Or whatever will make your date fun!

8. Go to a drive-in theater. Many are opening up and some are popping up out of nowhere now. Find out if there’s one near you. If not, you can make your own by setting up a portable screen and projector in the driveway. Cuddle in the car or the bed of your truck with some blankets, some popcorn and your beverage of choice. Here’s just one article on how to do it! An Amazon search is also interesting…      https://www.travelandleisure.com/culture-design/tv-movies/at-home-drive-in-movie-theater

9. Like music? A lot? Pull it out and take turns choosing songs. Bobby and I have lots of vintage vinyl. We had a blast one night pulling it all out. He made fun of my 80’s ballads. Hey….I like Air Supply! #SorryNotSorry. It was hilarious to move back and forth and back and forth from Schmaltz to Hard Rock. Not a fan of vinyl? Do it on Spotify. Yes…this is a pic of our albums. Lionel Richie and Styx. Hmn…wonder which one is mine? Ha!

10. Plan a sexy scavenger hunt. Make it light and fun and funny! Can’t miss with this one. There are fun ideas online. Or, make up one yourself.

Even if you find one idea here and do it, you’ll make a memory. And beat the blues a bit in these crazy times.

If all else fails, well…just PLANT one on him.
Take it from me.
That’ll work.

Depending on what’s happening, we feel more or less comfortable going out. Here are more date nights that take you out to enjoy your surroundings and others!
