I Don’t Speak Spanish: How To Speak Love in the Way They Hear It
I spent much of my time walking the hallways of Big Beaver Falls High School trying to avoid my teacher, Mr. Evans. “Senor” Evans was a perfectly nice man. But, he was my Spanish teacher, and anytime he would see one of his students in the hallway, he would try to talk to us in Spanish. And well, the only thing I knew how to say in Spanish was “No hablo Espanol.” (I don’t speak Spanish.)Have you ever had that same feeling in your relationships? I read a great book by Gary Chapman called “The Five Love Languages.” Dr. Chapman teaches that every person has a love language.
And if the person who loves us shows it in ours, we feel more loved by them. But, a person’s tendency is to try to show their love in their own language. The five love languages are Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch.
A lot of people have a primary and secondary one. Bobby’s are Words of Affirmation and Quality Time. So, a Saturday morning spent together in which I spend time encouraging him is just right.
What is your partner’s love language? If you don’t know, no worries. It’s easy enough to find out. You can ask them. Or, get the book. It’s inexpensive enough. I have also included this link to the online profile tool. It’s actually really fun to do together then talk about!
Do you know there is a Magic Ratio that’s 90% accurate in predicting your relationship’s success? It has to do with the above. Can’t guess? Read this.

I read something very similar years ago . This is a good refresher. I remember having on of those “Ah ha! “ moments. I actually “got “ this and have been able to use the insights in my relationships! P.S. Mr. Evans was my home room teacher one year ! Lol!

Hi, Janet! Yes, this book is a perfect one with which to start or refresh. I remember having that same kind of moment as I didn’t even know what my own Love Languages were before reading the book. It helped me understand why it felt like certain people “got me” more than others. And it helped me to start paying attention to this concerning everyone I loved. Please come back to the site. You have a lot of wisdom to share.
