Relationship Advice

Be fun. Be close.

Singer Van Morrison contends that All Work and No Play  makes you… really boring.  Haha! I agree with him. One of the things I love about my 37-year relationship with my husband is that he is still fascinating to me. He’s really intelligent and he’s bold. So, his thoughts are interesting and unlike other peoples’ thoughts. And, he has not stopped striving for things. But also – he’s reaaaaaly fun.

Because we’re so close, we don’t have to be doing much at all to have fun. However, finding new innovative things to do together keeps us close. And out of a rut. It invigorates our love!

I encourage you to get out there and do things.  Here are just a few of the things we have done that have made our life together fun and exciting! I would love to hear about the things you do!

Bobby plays the guitar. Over the years, he has played in church, in a few bands and “sits in” with others when invited. It’s always great to go and be in on the fun when he is entertaining.  This particular picture is of him playing with a a high school friend on the streets of Niagara Falls, New York. When we mentioned that we were coming to town, Joel told Bobby to bring his guitar and the rest is a lovely memory of listening to great music and catching up with fun and very talented friends! Just a couple weeks ago, we visited and jammed in their home.

A few years ago, Bobby talked me into singing in public. We have so much fun jamming in our Family Room and with others at local open mics. I can tell by the equipment that this jam included a visit from my brother-in-law. BONUS! Excuse our mess; we’re makin’ music, people!

Vacation. You might ask what is so unusual about that? Well, nothing really…except we did something on this vacation we had never done before – things we would have said were not our cup of tea.  Bobby snuba’d; I opted for snorkeling. It was fun to anticipate what it would be like on the way there in the boat, and then we compared notes about our fascinating adventures afterwards! Plus, my darling is so handsome in scuba gear…

To protect the guilty, I’m not sayin’ exactly what this is. Let’s just say I have learned a new skill, and I’m kinda good at it. So are my friends.

This is me and Gracie (my beloved car) in the Staging Lanes at the local race track. I’m studying my time slip to determine my dial-in for first round. As I recall, I didn’t fare so well that race. Bobby did much better. He’s a professional drag racer. Go figure.

We love to go to new restaurants and the man who, when I met him was perfectly satisfied to eat a frozen Swanson Hungry Man Dinner every night for dinner, has become a Fellow Foodie. We pick from our city’s listed “Top 25 Best Restaurants,” plug the address in the GPS and see where it takes us. Something new we’ve been trying is Coffee Shop Hopping…we have discovered some of the best places that way.

We have fun going to concerts. We have one band that we follow named Winery Dogs. I think we have seen them 5 times! We even traveled 5 hours away and spent the night. This time, Bobby took his Richie Kotzen signature guitar along with him and Richie himself signed it.

I have so many pictures of so many adventures. But, you don’t really want to see my pictures, do you? Go and take pictures of your own adventures with your beloved. Post them in the Comment Section and make me jealous!!
